2009 Sportsmanship Award Winners

2009 Menlo Atherton Little League Sportsmanship Award Winners

MA Little League Announces Sportsmanship Award Winners!!

To underscore the league's commitment to sportsmanship, every team in each division (except T-Ball) identifies one player on their team to receive the "Sportsmanship Award." The award is not necessarily meant for the "best" player, but rather the most complete player, i.e., the player who "embodies" the Little League spirit -- "To Play Fair, Strive to Win, and Do One's Best" and consistently demonstrates excellent sportsmanship. The League hopes that in an era where winning at all costs is rampant that this singular individual award will serve to emphasize to our children an important aspect of sport and life – the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and perspective for oneself, one's teammates and one's competitors.

Winners of the "Sportsmanship Award" were recognized at a special ceremony in between the Majors and AAA Championship games that were held on Player Appreciation Day at Burgess Field on Saturday, June 6th.

Congratulations Mike's Cafe - Major's Champions!!

In a thrilling extra-inning battle, Mikes Cafe defeated Draegers 11-10 behind timely hitting and several game-saving defensive plays to take the Majors Championship. Congratulations to the other division champions:  AAA Bulls, AA Red Sox, and A Cardinals. It's been a great season of baseball. Our thanks and congratulations to all the players and coaches.

The final playoff brackets for Single A, Double AA, AAA and Majors are all posted on the Division News pages.
See you next season!

New Challenger Division Added!!

The Challenger Division of Little League is a program for mentally and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities. More than the skills of baseball learned through the experience, the value of the Little League Challenger Division is found in the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports, the strengthening of participants’ self-esteem, the opportunities to mainstream into other divisions of play, and the disciplines of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play, which are hallmarks of the Little League program. The Little League Challenger Division provides the framework so Little League programs may offer a structured, athletic activity for all youth in their communities. Playing with the same equipment on the same fields, Challenger Division participants have the opportunity to experience the joys of pulling together as a team, being cheered, and earning awards for their achievements.

The Menlo-Atherton Challenger team (the MA Red Sox) are coached by Bob and Scott Crowe, and are sponsored by Social Strides - a company that offers language and social skills instruction to persons with Asperger's syndrome, non-verbal learning disorder, and high-functioning autism.
